Coastal Cup Time Rules and Awards

submitted by Bob Boucher on 1/8/2010
Coastal Cup this year will play 3/10 minute periods. It will be running time except for the last 2 minutes of the 3rd period. If the goal differential is 2 goals or less in the last 2 minutes, the clock will stop. There will be a 3 minute 3 v 3 over time(running time) during the round robin games. If the game is still tied, then it will go down as a tie. No timeouts during the round robin portion of the tournament. 1 timeout per team during the playoff section. If a game is tied after regulation during the playoffs, we will play a 3 minute 3 v 3 overtime. If it is still tied, then we will do a 3 minute 2 v 2 overtime. If it still tied then we will do a 3 person shootout. The only exception will be the finals. We will play 3 v 3 until someone scores. No shootout in the finals.

Concerning Awards: The 1st and 2nd place teams will receive medals during the qualifiers at the ceremony following the final game. Also, there will be a Most Valuable Player award presented to one player from the Finals for each age division, voted on by member(s) the Coastal Cup staff. Also, a coaches award will be presented to 1 player from the 1st and 2nd place teams. This award is voted on by the coaches of the respective teams. This is for all age groups.

At the Finals in May, a team trophy will be presented to the 1st and 2nd place teams in each age group. A Sportsmanship Trophy will be given to one team during the tournament in each age group. Also at the Finals only, the 1st Place teams in each age and skill division will get a banner to hang up at their home rink location.

Payment for Tournaments

submitted by Bob Boucher on 12/22/2009
Coastal Cup is in the continuing process of setting up on line payments for Regional Qualifiers and the Coastal Cup Championships. It should be up and running by the First of the year. In the mean time, if you sign up for a tournament before the ability to pay on line is functioning, you can mail the tournament fee to Bob Boucher/Coastal Cup at 415 Palace Green, Cary, NC 27518. Bob Boucher will contact your manager directly concerning other payment options.

Payment will have to be made in full 1 week before each regional qualifier and 2 weeks before the Coastal Cup Championships. No funds will be collected at the tournament sites. This is to ensure that CC can make the schedule far enough in advance so teams can plan their accommodations. It helps all that are involved to know who is playing and when they are playing. Sincerely, Jan and Bob Boucher

Club Hockey Tournaments

submitted by Bob Boucher on 12/11/2009
New Roller Hockey Series starting in 2010. Bob Boucher, owner of Dream Sports Center and Coastal Cup, announces a format to get more kids playing tournaments at their skill level and interest. The tournament format will be called Club Hockey(travel light). The intent is to give house league/recreational players a chance to experience the same high energy atmosphere that Traditional Travel players have been experiencing for years. This tournament series requires a lesser commitment level(time and financial).

Who is eligible? Any player that is not playing on an Elite Level Travel Team. Rinks can form their own teams from their house program. Parents can get a group of friends to form a team. Travel B teams are welcome to play. We want to give the kids who do not want to or cannot compete at the elite level a chance to play at their highest competitive level. This opportunity is for any program/club that would like to participate at their appropriate level of skill. It is not limited to the Coastal Cup Region. Any one can join in the fun.

Tournaments for 2010. We want to start slow the first year. The first tournament will be February 27 and 28th, 2010 at the Dream Sports Center. We plan on adding one more qualifying tournament between February 27-28 and May 21-23. The Club/Travel Light Finals Tournament will be May 21-23, 2010 at the Dream Sports Center at the Coastal Cup Championships. We would like to run similar tournaments at different rinks if the opportunity comes up. Also, in the near future(2011), we plan on adding a week long National Tournament that involves only Club teams, neighborhood teams and B Level Travel Teams. Eventually we want to include adults in the mix. However, we want to start off with quality versus quantity.

You can register your teakm on line. There is a link to USA Hockey In Line to register. The age cut off is December 31, 2009. If you would like further information concerning this new program or learn how to register your team, call Bob Boucher at either 919-656-0467(cell) or 919-387-2955 x103. Bob Boucher's e-mail address is bob@dreamsportscenter.com.

Thank You and look forward to hearing from you. Remember, there is no program too small or too big to get involved.
Sincerely, Bob Boucher

Coastal Cup Championship Requirements Modified

submitted by Bob Boucher on 12/2/2009
Coastal Cup will attempt to qualify more teams for the Championships that in the past have not been able to because of Ice Hockey conflicts. Coastal Cup will allow teams/programs to play in one regional qualifier if their Ice Hockey season affects their ability to play in two Coastal Cup Qualifiers. All decisions will be made on a case by case basis. We will consider other exceptions other than ice hockey conflicts if there is just cause to rule in favor of playing in one qualifier. In order to reward the teams that compete in two or more of the Coastal Cup Qualifiers, we will give a discount at the Coastal Cup Championships for those teams. If teams play in 2 or more qualifiers, then the price will be $650/team at the CCC.

We are putting the final touches in allowing teams to pay on line. Our goal is to have everything ready by next week. The tournaments are finalized, so you can plot what tournaments you would like to attend.

Sincerely, Bob Boucher
