WHO TOOK THAT PICTURE.....

submitted by Jake Plancon on 5/10/2008
How did that person get inside the net to take that cool picture??? Many hockey enthusiasts have seen this camera angle before and know that it’s a picture taken from the GOAL CAM which is used in the NHL to capture some pretty great action shots.

For the first time ever, Coastal Cup and Photographic Miracles will be installing an official NHL GOAL CAM to shoot photos during the Coastal Cup Championships. Goalies, don’t be afraid of the white box securely fastened in the back of the net…its only there to hopefully catch the fantastic saves that you make.

Parents and coaches…just to be clear, this GOAL CAM is there for taking photos ONLY. The GOAL CAM will not be used to protest whether or not the puck crossed the line. ☺

To my knowledge, a GOAL CAM has never been used in an inline hockey tournament. Coastal Cup and Photographic Miracles hopes that you find this NEW camera angel worth stopping by the Photographic Miracles booth. With any luck, we might catch some unprecedented inline hockey action

ATTN: GOALIES

Mark your calendars for May 17th 2008 from 10am-5pm.

Coastal Cup and Five Hole Sports Hockey Pro Shop has teamed up once again to bring you the first ever GOALIE DEMO DAY hosted by Itech. On Saturday May 17th during the Coastal Cup Championships, Itech will be sending their Sr. Pad Designer Greg Goyer to answer all of your questions regarding goalie equipment design. This is the first time ever an equipment pad designer has come to Raleigh or anywhere in the South East!!

Take advantage of this very special opportunity. Come see and try on all the new pads and equipment. Of course once you try it on, you should step out onto the synthetic ice and take a few shots to see why this equipment has built such a great reputation. Bring your questions on how to get the perfect equipment fit for your size and style of play.

The schedule for this weekend's Coastal Cup Regional Tournament at the South Gwinnett Athletic Association Complex is now available. Click here to access the SGAA schedule in PDF format.

Please be aware that there was an unusually large number of scheduling requests for this event. We understand that there is more than hockey in life, and we did our absolute best to honor these requests.

Important Details for SGAA event

submitted by Jake Plancon on 4/29/2008
Registration is now closed for the SGAA event. Coastal Cup will begin the scheduling process tonight with hopes to have it posted Wednesday evening.

As it looks right now, there will be no games on Friday night. On one rink we will be running the 8u, 10u, and 12u. The other rink will host the 14u, 16u, and 18u divisions. This means that games will roll pretty quickly. There has been an onslaught of special requests and I will do my best to meet all them however see it being a difficult task to meet all of them.

Team mangers, please be sure you have your players WAIVER and COASTAL CUP PLAYER PROFILE forms filled out by your players before they arrive at the rink. Also, please be sure you have your teams ROSTER completely filled out on my website for proper check in procedures.

Next Stop...SNELLVILLE GEORGIA

submitted by Jake Plancon on 4/21/2008
The final stop on the Coastal Cup 2007-08 regional schedule is Snellville Georgia. Coastal Cup is looking to gain the support of Georgia in our Coastal Cup Championships on May 16-18th. After 11 years, Coastal Cup took a close look at some of the tight roster rules and regulations they may have prevented teams from qualifying. By lifting some of those rules, many new programs or teams have played in Coastal Cup this year so that they too could compete in our 12th annual Championships.

Coastal Cup will host all USAHIL youth age divisions while in Snellville and hope to see you there.

COASTAL CUP's 12th ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!

submitted by Jake Plancon on 4/7/2008
This 2007-08 season will mark the 12th year Coastal Cup has been bringing to you exciting and competitive inline hockey in the Southeast. Once again our Championships will be held at the Dream Sports Center in Apex, North Carolina. As in the last 4 years, the Carolina Sportsplex in Morrisville, North Carolina has also been needed and I am sure this year will prove to be no different.

Coastal Cup will be hosting all USAHIL youth age divisions. In addition, we will also keep the tradition rolling with the ADULT VINTAGE DIVISION. The Vintage division is ONLY for parents and coaches over the age of 18 years of age that have players playing with in the Coastal Cup community. This division does not allow RINGERS. It’s a fun and exciting event for the players to see the coaches and parents WALK THE WALK after a season of TALKING THE TALK!!! This event also gives opportunity to all the Coastal Cup Referee’s to play against their favorite coaches. Season after season the referee’s enter in a team called REVENGE OF THE REFS to compete against teams such as the Charlotte SENIOR Checkers, DSC Dragons GREY, Savannah SUPERGEEZERS, or the CCH Grey Haired Floozies.

We have been working hard with vendors, as well as some other special appearances, that will make this event the best Championships to date. Soon you will see the Coastal Cup Host Hotels where we are sure you will be pleased with your accommodations while you visit. Once again the SKILLZ competition will allow players to strut their stuff while competing in various events against players from other programs.

To register your team, have your team manager click the REGISTER/LOG IN icon at the top of the page. The cost for this years event will be $650.00. Check back often as we will soon be posting additional host hotel info, registration for the SKILLZ competition, and announce the vendors and special appearances, as well as any other important info as we go along.

Thank you,
Jake Plancon

CALLING ALL 10U TEAMS....

submitted by Jake Plancon on 2/1/2008
CALLING ALL 10u TEAMS….

Coastal Cup is currently holding just one more spot for the 10u division in Charlotte. As many of you know, the younger age divisions are the future of inline hockey thus its important to keep them playing. With limited 10u teams out there, whenever you see the beginnings of a division, its important we all pool our resources to ensure there are enough teams to play. Currently have two 10u teams committed with a 3rd team that has expressed interest leaving room for just one more team to round out the division at 4 teams. If you are interested, please call at 404-822-5289 or email at jake@coastalcup.com

Charlotte and Myrtle Beach Wait List

submitted by Jake Plancon on 1/26/2008
Please understand that it is only fair to those teams on the wait list that we give them ample time to make hotel reservations and plans to attend an event. In order to accomplish this, Coastal Cup is asking that teams make their team entry fee ASAP

There are now 2 teams on a waiting list for the Charlotte Regional Qualifier. In order to secure your teams entry, your team entry fee must be received no later then Monday February 4th. At 5pm on Monday February 4th, any unpaid team will loose their spot in this regional to a team who is on the wait list.

There is also one team on the waitlist for Myrtle Beach. All team entry fee’s must be received no later then Monday February 25th. At 5pm on Monday February 25th, any unpaid team will loose their spot to the team(s) on the wait list.

Thank you for your understanding as Coastal Cup is working hard to accommodate as many teams as possible. So there is no last minute confusion with teams backing out of their registration which in return leaves both Coastal Cup and wait listed teams no time to make plans, please be sure to make your team entry fee is received on or before the dates listed above.

Thank you,
Jake Plancon

Dream Sports Complete....Now looking forward!!!

submitted by Jake Plancon on 1/21/2008
Dream Sports Center NC – January 19th-20th
Another very successful tournament at the Dream Sports Center this past weekend. Coastal Cup would like to thank the Potomac Mavericks for participating in what was for some their first Coastal Cup event. A special thanks goes out to all the 8u teams for participating. As many of you know, the 8u and 10u divisions are the future of roller hockey and this weekend showed great promise for years to come. The results will be posted in just a few days.

Charlotte Sports Center NC – February 15-17th
Registration for the 12u, 14u, 16u divisions are now officially closed for the Charlotte Regional qualifier. The 8u, 10u, and 18u each have 2 available spots left. Upon receiving the last team entry fee, Coastal Cup will create and post the schedule early. So if you have not mailed in your team entry fee, please so ASAP. I am sure everyone would like to have the schedule out earlier then the week of the event. The host hotel for this event is the Hilton Garden Inn Charlotte North and can be reached at (704)597-7655. Be sure to mention that you are with Coastal Cup to receive your discounted rate.

SportsZone Myrtle Beach SC – March 28-30th
For many of you, the Myrtle Beach event comes at a perfect time…SPRING BREAK. That is the reason why this event sells out so fast. The Myrtle Beach Regional qualifier also has some closed age divisions which include the 12u, 14u and 16u age division. There are 2 available spots available in the 8u, 10u, and 18u age divisions. Again, now that some of the age divisions are closed, it is important to have your team entry fee mailed in ASAP so that we can create and post the schedule early.

Host Hotels will soon be posted for the remainder of the season. Since Coastal Cup has visited these cities for many years, we have taken the guess work out of picking hotels. We have taken the leg work out so that you don’t have to call one hotel after another. Its just one way Coastal Cup tries to make your tournament planning easier. When calling the host hotel, be sure to mention that your team(s) are coming in for the Coastal Cup event and would like the Coastal Cup discounted rate.

Inclement Weather will cause 1 hour delay

submitted by Jake Plancon on 1/19/2008
Coastal Cup and Dream Sports Center have concluded that due to the inclement weather we are faced with and in the best interest of everyone’s safety, we will be pushing back the ENTIRE SUNDAY schedule by 1 hour. This means that the first schedule game that WAS at 6am is NOW going to start at 7am. TO BE CLEAR…all games will start 1 hour later then originally scheduled.

A Successful Start To Our 12th Season

submitted by Todd Moshier on 10/15/2007
The season opener is now complete. A THANK YOU goes out to all teams and programs for making this event a HUGE SUCCESS. Coastal Cup hopes that you enjoy this season's upgrades, which include:

  • First- and second-place COLORED FILLED MEDALS in place of trophies. And don’t forget the TEAM BANNER that all first-place division winners receive in addition to their individual awards.
  • MISSION CONTROL – where we now use the 42” HIGH-DEFINITION FLAT SCREEN to display team stats, game scores, tournament schedule, industry sponsorships, and soon... GAME HIGHLIGHTS. YOU HEARD IT…BUT YOU COULDN’T SEE IT…how about that new SURROUND SOUND system playing your favorite music. WHERE IS THAT COMING FROM?????
  • FLASH ANIMATED WEBSITE - While this is only PHASE 1 of the animation project, PHASE 2 will include YOUR TEAM OR PROGRAM LOGOS. Of course this will be at NO COST TO YOUR PROGRAM. SO, if you would like to have your team represented on our site, please email us you team or program logo in a vector or .pdf format as soon as possible. PHASE 3 is yet to come but I can assure you…YOU’LL LOVE IT
  • TEAM STATS – That’s right, Coastal Cup has built a database to keep track of players individual stats. This portion of our website will be operating soon so it is very important that team managers keep their teams data up to date on our website.
  • COASTAL CUP SPIRIT WEAR – Did you see the embroidered hats, sweatshirts and polos? Wait to you see the new printed T-shirts, sweatshirts and drink koozies.
  • Coastal Cup has gone to STOP TIME . NO MORE “MILKING” THE CLOCK!!! Two, 12-minute STOP TIME periods. Feed back from coaches, players and parents proved that this was a GREAT CHANGE. EVERYONE LOVED IT.
  • ROSTER GUIDELINES – This season, Coastal Cup has somewhat loosened its roster regulations with intention to allow more teams to participate. Teams/programs such as The Crusaders, Team Carolina, Carolina HEAT and Carolina BlackJacks took advantage in our season opener. REMEMBER that ALL PLAYERS are still required to participate in twp Coastal Cup regional events in order to participate in the Coastal Cup Championships in May. This will ensure that when you come to play with in Coastal Cup, you will not be faced with a “RINGER” team that flies kids in from all over the country

As a reminder…..Coastal Cup is heading BACK TO THE BEACH…MYRTLE BEACH OCTOBER 26-28. Could be your last trip to the beach before it gets to cold. Registration deadline is October 19. Those teams coming from Raleigh…check your calendar, I believe Monday, October 29 is a school holiday so STAY IN MYRTLE BEACH an extra day. Our HOST HOTEL has made special arrangements so you can enjoy another day!!

Stay tuned as we will soon have all the games scores from our home opener on the website. If everything comes together….we may have the individual player stats up as well.

    Until Next time,
    Jake Plancon

  • Put These Events On Your Calendar

submitted by Todd Moshier on 9/5/2007
The 2007-08 Coastal Cup schedule is nearly complete. With a few more possible additions such as Coolsports in Knoxville, TN, and Slapshots in Fredricksburg, VA, here is a list of confirmed dates so that you can begin planning your team's schedule:

    • October 12-14th – Carolina Sportsplex – Morrisville, NC
    • October 26-28th – Sportszone – Myrtle Beach, SC
    • November 16-18th – TBD
    • December – TBD
    • January 18-20th – Dream Sports Center – Apex, NC
    • February 15-17th – Charlotte Sports Center - Charlotte, NC
    • March 28-30th – Sportszone – Myrtle Beach, SC
    • April 18-20th – Greenville Pavilion – Greenville, SC
    • May 2-4th – SGAA - Gwinnett, GA
    • May 16-18th – Coastal Cup Championships – TBD

    Some KEY SCHEDULE NOTES:

  • In the past, Myrtle Beach seems to be a HOT SPOT, selling out more quickly than other Coastal Cup events (especially since the facility is less then 1 year old). Notice that we have added an additional event there in the fall, giving everyone one more opportunity to get the beach before the fall weather hits. REGISTER EARLY FOR THIS EVENT.
  • We have moved the Atlanta regional out of December. The reason for the change is that the High School and Middle School program is so strong in the Atlanta area, travel teams really don’t get going until late March. With that being said, SGAA was willing to move our date to May 2-4. They have a new air conditioning system in place, so come out and play SGAA before it gets too hot!
  • Coastal Cup is looking to expand this year by moving into Virginia and Tennessee. As is the tradition of our tournament series, Coastal Cup asks all participating teams to consider making a trip up to these facilities to show your support for their program in hopes they will then show support for yours.

Many of you may have heard that Coastal Cup is making some changes as it relates to our ROSTER REGULATIONS. In order to “roll” with the changing dynamics of the sport, we will be loosening the roster regulations to suit the changing needs of the sport. What does this mean? This means that independent teams and facility- or program-based teams will now be able to participate within our series. Whether you are considered a CLUB team or a INDEPENDENT team, ALL TEAMS will still be required to submit a roster prior to every event. ALL TEAMS, and therefore PLAYERS, will still be required to participate in TWO Coastal Cup regional events to qualify for our season-ending championships. By requiring players and teams to participate in two Coastal Cup regional events, we will be able to best assess which division your team should play in.

Coastal Cup will continue to make every effort in PRE-SEEDING teams into divisions like we have done in the past. This should prevent GOLD teams from competing against BRONZE teams. We have always tried to have similar-strength teams play each other to prevent blowouts. Mercy games are no fun no matter how you look at it. If you have any questions about roster regulations as it relates to your team participating with in Coastal Cup, please feel free to drop me an email at jake@coastalcup.com.

Registration will open soon for all events. Once your team has its schedule set, be sure to register ASAP. Also, remember that if your team entry fee is not received with in 10 days of your registration, you do risk losing your spot for that event. Check back often over the next week or so as we will soon have the website open for team managers to begin creating their team profiles online.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

  • Gearing up for the 2007-08 Tournament Season

submitted by Jake Plancon on 8/15/2007
    To the Coastal Cup family,

Hope you enjoyed your summer. Was it filled with hockey or did you take some time off to recharge. Personally, I did a little of both.

After the 11th annual Coastal Cup Championships, I took some time to take a close look at various aspects of the sport. I spent some time with industry leaders and program directors evaluating the growth and development of inline hockey here in the Southeast. I have chosen to take the initiative in answering some industry wide elements, assisting in the ever-changing dynamics of the sport.

Soon the 2007-08 Coastal Cup season will start off with a fresh new look and feel! With changes in game format, roster regulations, regional event locations, and additional vendor support keeping in mind what the hockey community has come to expect.

While I know many hockey programs are gearing up for their try outs and looking to fill roster spots on their teams, please visit our website often as you will soon see detailed info on the 2007-08 Coastal Cup season.

    See you at the rink.....SOON!
